I'm also wondering if I could just take the rod apart (there's a spring inside that pushes that little metal piece at the end), and essentially just cut a dowel rod down to about the size of 5 22LR rounds, effectively making a plug for the tube magazine. I suppose I could buy another tube magazine and cut that, but I figured I'd ask around here first and see if anybody had any better ideas. I thought about that, but being that it was a gift from my grandfather I'd really rather not modify it in that way.
